KOTA KINABALU: The stop-work order on the Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront Development project has been lifted.

City Hall deputy director-general in charge of operations, Joannes Solidau, said work on the RM500 million project would recommence in a few days.

"The developers have been warned to follow regulations."

A meeting was held earlier this week involving the joint developers chaired by Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Susannah Liaw.

"They have been reprimanded over some environmental matters and warned to follow the regulations strictly, including no reclamation work," said Johanes after a press conference on the city's 10th anniversary celebrations yesterday.

The contractor was fined RM15,000 by the Environmental Protection Department and given a stop-work order for carrying out reclamation work without first doing an environmental impact assessment study. The fine was paid.

The project is a joint venture between DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd and Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd.
