The BioMalaysia 2008 Conference and Exhibition held on the 7 – 9 October 2008 was a success with 7879 visitors. This premier annual biotechnology event was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Y.B. Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, accompanied by the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation, Y.B. Datuk Dr. Maximus Ongkili.

This event, held for the sixth time, gathered exhibitors ranging from the private and government organisations. Among some of the exhibitors are ; Bioeven Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Genomics Research Centre, Holista Biotech Sdn Bhd, Asiatic Centre for Genome Technology Sdn Bhd and many other exhibitors whose presence provided the opportunity for industry players to exchange views in working towards achieving greater heights in commercialisation of the biotechnology industry.

The BioInno Awards, the first ever innovation award to recognise outstanding performance and innovations by scientists and researchers had spiced up the event with more than 100 entries competing. There were winners in various categories such as; best of best innovation award, most innovative award, most promising innovation, women bioinnovator of the year, gold, silver and bronze winners.

On another note, the Conference witnessed the convergence of speakers from 15 countries namely the United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, France, Germany and Australia. The participation of these experts, provided conference delegates with an in-depth knowledge on biotechnology.
